Mardi Gras Posters:
New Orleans Unique Party
ProCreations began producing its famous New Orleans Jazz Festival Posters in 1975. By 1978, that series had become established enough that the company could begin considering other events. Mardi Gras was a natural. Count back forty days before Easter and there it is - at the intersection of Desire and Fulfilment - Fat Tuesday. Carnival in New Orleans means masking as the person you'd be if there weren't all those pesky morals and mores to consider. The series was produced for eighteen years, until 1994, when ProCreations surrendered to the reality that the demographics had shifted from artsy to beer and beads. The final print in the series was, fittingly, by Hugh Ricks and completed his "Reveller" trilogy originally planned as a diptych in 1985 and 1986. Ricks was the most prolific artist of the series, and his prints remain the most sought after.
