Singular Editions I: ProCreations in Europe |
As ProCreations prints began to show up in European collections, the company tried publishing abroad, most notably with prints for the Grande Parade du Jazz in Nice, France and the Montreux
International Jazz Festival in Switzerland. The high costs of doing business abroad and the structural rigidities of the art markets there forced a hasty retreat. Nonetheless, many consider John Martinez's 1980 print for the Nice festival
to be one of the finest the company has ever published, particularly considering that it was created using only three colors - to cut down on import duties! A good bit of the subtlety of the print, like the plume of smoke rising from the
now politically incorrect Gitannes hanging from the bassist's lips, are lost in the digital reproduction. |
